Wedding Hairstyles

The Hairdo that Completes your Look

What can complete a perfect wedding look more than the perfect hair?  In fact, the right hairstyle can flatter your features, highlight your accessories, and showcase your gown.  Before we discuss some of the popular wedding hairstyles and evening hairdos that have been seen on runways and the red carpet this year, let's consider some of the factors that could help you choose the perfect hairstyle for your big day:
  • The climate during that time of the year

  • The accessories you want to wear

  • The wedding gown's neckline and embellishments

  • Your hair type and length
We always suggest that the bride does not have too many competing factors in her look.  Remember, sometimes less is more!  That style rule applies even on your wedding day.  Coco Chanel famously said that a woman should look in the mirror on her way out the door, and take off one accessory.  Editing is as important as embellishing a look.  So, it is best to decide on the wedding day look once you have purchased your wedding gown.  Your hairstyle should be compatible with the gown's neckline.  For example, gowns with higher necklines are better suited for up dos, while gowns with plunging necklines are highlighted by cascading hair or half up dos.  If, a gown is embellished with beading, crystals and different textures, it is best to have a simple up do to showcase the gown.  While, more simple gowns can be accented by beautifully decorated hair that is down.  In recent years, more brides have used soft wavy hair that is down as a way to soften very embellished formal gowns.  While, this creates a more laid back look, it can hide some of the beauty of the gown.  It is ultimately up to the bride what she would like to place the focus on.

Here are some of our favorite wedding hairstyles:

Up dos

 Half-up/Half-down

Hair down

 Short hair

Besides the classic wedding hairstyles, the newest hair craze is the pixie cut!!  Many stars are tired of their long hair and extensions, and opting for a more simple hairdo that puts the emphasises on their beautiful features.

Have a lovely day,
M.M.

A Family Affair!!

A Coptic Orthodox Wedding in New Jersey

Today, we are featuring a very special wedding.  This is the wedding of a family member of the the Lovely Day Weddings team.  We know how hard and stressful wedding planning can be, but imagine planning your wedding long-distance?!  The bride, who resides in Illinois had to rely on the groom, who is from New Jersey, to work with her to plan the wedding in his hometown.  Many e-mails, phone calls, and flights to New Jersey later, the wedding day was finally upon them!  On this wedding day, amazingly all things seemed to fall right into place.  On the morning of their big day, the skies cleared, the sun shined, and the couple were united in front of all their friends, family and clergy.  The couple had a Coptic Orthodox wedding ceremony that was held at St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church in East Brunswick, New Jersey, and a dinner reception at the Robert B. Meyner Reception Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. The bride chose the classic colors of white and blue as a theme throughout the wedding, accented by some soft lavender flowers for contrast.  The groomsmen and bridesmaids wore royal blue, the bride's favorite color, which was accented by silver accessories.

We hope you enjoyed this beautiful wedding!

Have a lovely day,

Wedding Venue Questions

What You Need to Know Before You Go . . .

As promised, here are some questions or topics to discuss with the event coordinator of the venue you are interested in reserving for your wedding.  It's a good idea to go to that meeting prepared in order to get the most out of it, and save the hassle of having to call or e-mail them for more information later.  Most venues, will have a prepared brochure with general information about the venue on their website, and they will probably give you a paper copy during your visit.  But, by the time of your visit, you should have an idea of what you want your wedding/reception to look like, and what you would like to include and make considerations for when you are picking a venue.  For example, do you want a photo booth for guests to take pictures in?  Then, you must consider approximately how much space that would require.  Also, would like a band or a DJ?  A band will need a stage, but a DJ might not, but he/she will need to be close to power outlets.  Below, we have come up with important /topics to discuss when you visit your venue.  These topics will come in handy, no matter what style of wedding you plan on having.

Discussion Points for Meeting with Venue Staff:

  • What is the cost of each menu option, and what do they include?
    • Is the wedding cake provided as part of the package?

  • Is there a minimum charge for the venue that must be paid?
    • Some venues, have a minimum charge that must be paid, instead of a guest number that must be met

  • What is the service charge and taxes, and are they included?
    • The service charge and taxes can make a HUGE  difference in your total price, because it is usually an overall percentage.  For example, 15% of your total cost will be added as a service charge

  • What is the maximum capacity for the space?  Does that take into consideration a dance floor and a stage/DJ booth?
    • Is a dance floor provided?

  • What is the alternative venue space?
    •  For outdoor spaces, in case of inclement weather

  • How many events do they host simultaneously?  Will you be sharing a cocktail hour space with any other events?

  • What is the server/guest ratio?

  • Is the venue handicap accessible?

  • Is there a Bridal Suite or a room for you and the wedding party to relax and freshen up before the reception?
These questions should help get the ball rolling in your visit with the sales representative at the venue, and will open the doors for discussion of other aspects of the event and venue.  It's also a great idea, to visit the venue with your partner and a friend or relative who has been married and you enjoyed their wedding.  They will help point out things and ask questions you might have never thought of!

Have a Lovely Day,

M.M.

Wedding Venue Disappointment

#
What if your wedding venue called you 10 days before your wedding and told you they could no longer host your wedding there??

We came across this story reported by the Today Show, and we strongly sympathized with these couples!!

When searching for a wedding venue, it is important to ask the right questions when you meet with the salesperson/coordinator of the venue.  Even more importantly, do your own research before going to the venue.  Your time is valuable, so check out these websites to narrow your search and find ratings from other brides/grooms www.theknot.com, www.weddingwire.com, www.bb.org.  The Better Business Bureau is not a site most brides think of, but it is a very helpful source that can tell you if others have reported problems with your venue or vendors, and how these issues were resolved.

#

Once, you have narrowed down your list of venues, and you decide to meet with the event coordinator of the venue.  It is important to know prices of comparable venues in the area.  You can find this information usually by requesting pricing information from venues' websites.  This will help greatly in negotiating pricing and services provided.

In our next post, we'll discuss what questions to ask when visiting a wedding venue.

Have a lovely day,
M.M.
